Next Generation EU is a European Recovery Fund that will inject €72.7 billion in non-repayable transfers into Spain. Starting in 2021, this funding will finance projects that support digital transformation, including that of Spain’s public healthcare system.
As for the allocation of funds, central, regional, and local administrations will be responsible for coordinating the processes of identifying, selecting, and awarding grants. For this reason, any companies eligible for these grants should approach each transformation project from both an institutional and a European perspective. This will ensure alignment with the designated investment guidelines.
To this end, it is essential for companies to open themselves up to the nearest support ecosystems and, above all, to seek advice on evaluating criteria and requirements and on drafting plans. It is even advisable to have support when carrying out certain projects through technology institutes and other specialized organizations.
Regional health services have the opportunity to improve their efficiency, working methods, and relationships with patients and citizens through strategically valuable projects that drive their transformation and, in turn, that of the Spanish economy. Healthcare technology must play a key role, leveraging new technologies such as AI, IoMT, robotics, and data, to co-design a more preventive healthcare system that enables more accurate diagnoses and the identification of treatments personalized to each patient. Ultimately, the goal is to provide professionals, patients, and healthcare managers with new and better services built on a digital transformation process.
