Madrija and the Castilla-La Mancha Society of Cardiology held the 1st Cardiovascular Innovation and Prevention Conference in Toledo, bringing together around fifty experts.
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide, and around 80% of the premature deaths it causes could be prevented by following a healthy lifestyle that reduces risk factors.
This was stated by SESCAM’s managing director, Regina Leal, during the opening in Toledo of the 1st Cardiovascular Prevention and Innovation Conference, organized by the Castilla-La Mancha Society of Cardiology and Madrija Consultoría, where she was joined by the scientific society’s president, José Moreu, and the Director General of Human Resources, Iñigo Cortázar.
During her address, Leal highlighted the regional Government’s commitment to prevention and technological innovation in addressing cardiovascular conditions through various projects aimed at promoting citizens’ health and providing the tools needed to strengthen professionals’ collaborative networks. She stated that SESCAM is working toward a shift in the healthcare model, focusing on health through prevention, noting that “one of our healthcare system’s main goals is to turn healthcare into health — that is, to try to reduce illness so that less treatment is needed: more public health and prevention”.
On the subject of innovation, Leal explained the importance of technological tools for both diagnosis and, in many cases, treatment. She recalled that in 2018 five hemodynamics labs were renovated with a significant investment, and that three new labs will soon be added for the hospitals in Ciudad Real, Talavera, and Cuenca, all included in the Inveat Plan, with an investment of nearly €3.6 million.
Following the opening, two round tables were held featuring renowned specialists from Castilla-La Mancha and Madrid. One on Cardiovascular Prevention moderated by Drs. Luis Rodríguez Padial, Head of the Cardiology Department at Toledo University Hospital, and Juan José Camacho Parejo, Director General of Public Health, with speakers including Dr. Alejandro Berenguel, Cardiac Rehabilitation Coordinator at HUT’s Cardiology Department; Dr. Laura Núñez , cardiologist at Cuenca Hospital; Dr. María Sara Castaño, of the Cardiology Department at Talavera de la Reina Hospital; and Gemma Lozano, Rehabilitation Nurse at HUT’s Cardiology Department.
The second addressed Innovation in Cardiology, moderated by María Luz López-Carrasco, General Manager of Abbott Vascular Spain, and Eladio Linares, CIO of SESCAM, with speakers Alejandro Escario Méndez, Technical Director at Madrija; Dr. Ignacio Fernández, Head of the Arrhythmia Unit at Puerta de Hierro Hospital in Madrid; Juan Romero , Cardiology Spain Leader at Philips; and Emilia Rasero, Hemodynamics and Arrhythmia Supervisor at the Toledo hospital’s Cardiology Department.
